BMW N.A. has issued a recall of approximately 27 model year 2014 i3s and Mini Cooper Hardtops due to possible airbag inflator assembly issue.

Which BMW models are affected by the recall?

BMW i3 vehicles manufactured March 31, 2014 and 2014 Mini Cooper Hardtop vehicles manufactured from February 2, 2014 to May 30, 2014.

What causes the Airbag Inflator Issue?

An assembly error during the manufacturing process of the airbag inflator causes the possible issue. This error may cause failure of the airbag to deploy properly in the event of a crash.

Are there any known accidents attributed to the defect?

At this time, BMW is not aware of any accidents or injuries due to the related problem.

What do I do if my car is one of those affected?

BMW will be notifying all owners affected by the recall in September 2014. BMW will replace the front passenger side air bag at no cost.
