April 1st is a day that some revel in, some avoid, and some forget all together. As April Fools’ Day comes around, we watch our favorite companies show a bit of a fun side, from Google’s interactive doodles and phantom pageviews from the International Space Station to “Game of Thrones” discussing the dispatch of every beloved character in the series. Bavarian Motor Works was not to be left out of the game this year either, giving BMW enthusiasts the “royal treatment” on April Fools’ Day with a new device design.
On April Fools’ Day, you may not have expected your favorite vehicle make to show a sense of humor, but BMW decided to add a touch of whimsy to the day by announcing a BMW PRAM. For those of you who grew up stateside and haven’t heard the term “pram” before, it’s another term for a child’s stroller, though BMW has gone a step further to make the name an acronym for a “Postnatal Royal Auto Mobile”.
The new BMW PRAM is designed with the English royal baby in mind, according to the advert on the BMW website. The sales’ text went on to describe the luxury of the new device:
“Fitted with a Nurse-Assisting Petrol Powered Injection Engine (N.A.P.P.I.E) and award-winning EfficientDynamics technologies, including active aerodynamics and low rolling-resistance tyres, for those who are ‘too posh to push’. With a choice of two or four-wheel drive it rides as smoothly on the polo field as it does down the Mall.”
BMW made sure to consider all options for the PRAM, giving the royal baby gender specific color options of “Princess Pink” or “Royal Blue”. with amenities such as a “soft-top convertible...air conditioning, and paparazzi-proof hood as standard.” They also even put thought into client services for the product, naming Joe King the “Head of Postnatal Innovation”.
While the idea of a BMW stroller may have been alluring to the Bimmer enthusiast and the truth of the joke disappointing, we’re sure everyone can appreciate the humor behind the posting and the creativity from the minds at BMW.
