The BMW Oil & Safety Service is like a regular "check-up" for your Bimmer and is a part of your Factory Scheduled Maintenance. Consisting of an oil change for BMW Vehicles and a basic check of your safety features, the Oil & Safety services helps ensure that your BMW is running smoothly and is road ready.
What is included in the Oil & Safety Service?
The Oil & Safety Service for your BMW begins just like the Intermediate Oil Change Service with an oil change and oil filter change using approved synthetic motor oil for BMW vehicles. As part of your regular BMW service plan, the Oil & Safety Service also includes a safety check of crucial items on your vehicle. During the service the following will be inspected:
- Brakes
- Horn
- Windshield wipers and wiper fluid
- Indicator lights and dashboard warning lights
- Steering linkage
- Engine coolant
- Rubber belts and hoses, and
- suspension components.
In addition to these safety checks, your technician will also check your tire pressure and will check for fluid leaks.
How often should I schedule the BMW Oil & Safety Service?
The BMW service schedule varies based on the year and make of your Bimmer.
For models made before 1998, your first Oil & Safety Service should be performed at 10,000 miles and then in 20,000 mile intervals after that, i.e. 30,000 miles for your second Oil & Service and then 50,000 for your third.
For models made during 1999 through 2013, the BMW service plan contains longer intervals between services. Your first Oil & Safety Service should be performed at 15,000 miles and then every 30,000 miles after that, i.e. 45,000 miles for your second Oil & Service and then 75,000 for your third.
Starting with 2014 vehicles (July 2013 manufacturing date and forward), BMW has decreased the recommended service interval to every 10,000 miles or 12 months. This change should help to reduce any driver confusion about the need for intermediate oil change services.
